Welcome. :o)
I guess the first thing you need to know about this journal is that it's fiction.
My name is Sunny Crittenden and in 2006 I began writing a live, fictional blog called Cammity Jane, but ultimately abandoned it, annoying almost 100 readers, because I felt my writing was crap, my characters were crap and my whole story in general was crap. On the best of days, I'm quite a self-loathing individual so this is nothing new.
In a fit of writer's angst, I told my husband, Blake, that I was deleting the journal so I'd never have to look at it again and he begged me to at least print off one hard copy, which I did, and then I deleted the journal without apology or explanation, never really thinking about it again.
Until now...2009. Several weeks ago I was describing the Cammity Jane project to a new friend who wasn't around when I was doing it "live" and in real time and she said to me "y'know, I'd like to read that". So I got Blake to give me back my hard copy and my notes and started to re-read some of what I'd written and decided that it wasn't half bad, especially for my first real attempt at writing fiction.
So I thought it over for a few days and decided to resurrect the project, although it wasn't without its logistical problems. Mostly, how would I age Jane 3 years and keep her story believable? The fact is, I couldn't, so rather than back date posts because back dated posts don't show up on Live Journal friends lists, I've decided that each post is going to be titled with the date of the original post and given a subtitle of what that post was originally called. While the original Cammity Jane was in real time, this version won't be.
I'm also going to take my time with making posts. Because I'm working from a hard copy and have to type everything out again by hand, I have the unique opportunity to edit as I go along and fix things that bugged me or didn't make the most sense before. For example, I plan on fleshing out Jane, the main character, a little but more than I did in the previous version.
And of course, this time I'm going in with more of a plan. The original Cammity Jane was completely off the cuff and stream of conscious. Because of this, I never knew what was going to happen next and I think that's why I ultimately got burnt out on the whole thing. I got to a certain point where my imagination couldn't keep up with the timeline, which ruined the real time feel of the story and I think that's why I ended up getting frustrated with it.
And finally, the original Cammity Jane was partly a "choose your own adventure" story in that sometimes I would break character in a friends only post and ask the readers what they think should happen next. I don't intend to do that this time. I may break character in the same manner, as a friends only post, and ask for feedback or if anyone isn't clear on something (which is why, if you're reading this you should add this journal as a friend!) but I think I'm going to be the only one steering the direction of the actual story. I think last time there may have been too many cooks in the kitchen, if you know what I mean.
SO! I guess all there is left to say is add this journal to your friends list and enjoy the ride!
